What the Coffee's Like

The coffee is roasted on-site by Six8 Coffee Roasters — our sister business — so it doesn't travel far before it ends up in your cup. For milk coffees like flat whites, lattes, and cappuccinos, we use the Bohemian blend: smooth, sweet, and reliable. For black coffees and batch brew, it's the Ethiopian single origin — fruity, smooth, and a lot more interesting than you might expect from a filter.

If you're after decaf, we serve it as a proper café drink, not just a bag to take home. The organic decaf is genuinely good — sweet, smooth, and nutty. Worth ordering if you're cutting back on caffeine but still want something worth drinking.

What to Eat

The menu leans toward honest food done well. A few things people come back for:

Bacon and Egg Roll — crispy bacon, two free-range eggs on a soft potato bun, with house-made tomato relish. If you want something quick and satisfying, this is the one.

Avo & Feta Smash — toasted sourdough with leafy greens, avo, Tassie feta, house-made dukkah, and a balsamic drizzle. There's a vegan option with cashew cheese if you need it.

Hot-Honey Mushrooms with Crispy Kale — button mushrooms sautéed with hot honey and crispy kale, served on sourdough with house-made cashew cheese spread. Vegan-friendly and gluten-free available. Good with a poached egg or bacon on the side if you want something more substantial.

Zucchini Fritters with Bacon — zucchini, bacon, tzatziki, garlic oil, roast seeds, and sour cream. A bit different, and worth it.

Good for Kids?

Yes. There's a proper kids menu — not just a couple of token options. Cheese toasties, eggs on toast, avo spread, cheesy nacho chips, and a Belgian waffle with maple syrup or Nutella. Babyccinos too, obviously.

It's a relaxed space. Locals bring their kids in regularly, especially after the morning school drop-off. It doesn't feel like you need to keep anyone quiet.

Good for People Just Passing Through?

Absolutely. Yass sits right on the Hume Highway between Sydney and Canberra, and a lot of people stop through on the way. If you need a proper coffee and a meal that's worth the detour — not a servo pie and a paper cup — Trader & Co. is worth pulling off for.

The food is made here. The coffee is roasted here. It takes a little longer than a drive-through, but it's not a slow café. If you're on the road, plan for 30–40 minutes and you'll leave in better shape than when you arrived.
